미국의 싱어송라이터 Beyonce (비욘세)는 1997년 그룹 Destiny's Child로 공식 데뷔해 2003년 자신의 첫 솔로 앨범인 [Dangerously in Love]를 발매하면서 본격적인 솔로 활동을 시작한다.

 

Jay-Z의 피처링이 가세한 첫 싱글 'Crazy in Love'은 빌보드 Hot 100 8주 연속 정상에 올랐고, 후속 싱글로 Sean Paul이 피처링한 'Baby Boy'이 9주간 정상을 차지하면서 전 세계적으로 1,100만 장의 판매고를 기록하기도 했다. 또한 "제46회 그래미 어워드"에서 최우수 컨템퍼러리 알앤비 앨범, 최우수 여자 알앤비 보컬 퍼포먼스 등 총 5관왕에 오르는 성과를 거두었다.

이후 두 번째 앨범 [B'Day]와 3집 [I Am ... Sasha Fierce]까지 연이어 히트를 거두었으며, 새로운 가정을 꾸리고 완전한 독립을 이룬 후 발표한 네 번째 정규 앨범 [4] 역시 첫 주 미국 내에서 31만 장을 판매하며 빌보드 200 차트 1위로 데뷔했다.

 

 

이후 정규 5집 [Beyonce]로는 소위 시각적 앨범(Visual Album)이라고 밝힐 만큼 앨범에 담길 모든 곡의 뮤직비디오를 10여 명의 다양한 영상 감독들의 도움을 받아 제작하였고, 전국 7000개의 스타벅스 매장을 통해 음반을 판매하면서 온라인과 오프라인을 포함해 발매 첫 주에 당당히 1위 자리에 등극했다.

임신과 출산으로 1년여의 휴식기를 가진 후 On The Run 투어를 2년 동안 진행할 예정임을 밝혔으며, 2018년 6월, Jay-Z와 The Carters라는 이름으로 앨범을 발표했다. [Everything Is Love]는 Pharrell, Migos, Offset, Quavo 등 부부의 음악적 동료들이 함께했고, 부부가 전곡 작사, 작곡에 참여했다. 전 세계에서 가장 큰 영향력을 가진 세기의 커플이 발표한 앨범으로 뮤직비디오는 공개 3일 만에 2천만을 돌파했다. 2022년 7월에는 6년 만의 정규작이자 무려 다섯 트랙의 타이틀을 내세운 [Renaissance]를 발매해 전 세계 팬들의 환호를 받았다.
